2008 Election News

This article has been updated since it was first posted with the following corrections:
Toby Nixon is a "former state representative". He did not lose his seat to Eric Oemig; both Oemig and he ran for the seat vacated by Sen. Bill Finkbeiner, who retired. Toby Nixon is running this year against Rep. Roger Goodman, who won the House seat Nixon vacated in 2006 to run for the Senate. (Many thanks to Toby Nixon for the corrections.)

Former state representative Toby Nixon (R-45) will attempt to regain the seat he gave up in 2006 to run for the Washington State Senate. His opponent will be Roger Goodman. In 2006, he ran against Eric Oemig for Sen. Bill Finkbeiner's senate seat and lost. Both Nixon and Oemig are pro-abortion.

Update: Roger Goodman is also pro-abortion.

Read Nixon's stand on "Abortion and Reproductive Rights" here.

Read our article and Nixon's juvenile "everybody else is jumping off the bridge" response to it here.

I had hoped that during his sabbatical from the legislature Nixon would have had time to read and reflect on the nature of freedom, justice and the limits of democracy. Just a suggestion -- maybe pick up a book on embryology. The flaws in Nixon's thinking are obvious and elementary so I won't detail them here. It's not that complicated really. We are talking about child murder after all.

Planned Parenthood and the abortion lobby have the money and energy to support Goodman's reelection, and they will. The "pro-choice" voters Nixon thinks will come out and support him are a fantasy. Despairing pro-lifers will bring a few votes his way. Win or lose, D or R the 45th District will be safe seat for the abortion industry.

The better news is that the pro-life Michael Delavar will seek the Republican nomination the for the 3rd Congressional District seat held by Rep. Brian Baird.

Update: Thoughts on the Delavar-Baird race from Life of the Party.

Mary, there are a number of basic facts wrong in your posting. I am not a "former state senator", but a "former state representative". I did not lose my seat to Eric Oemig; both Oemig and I were running for the seat vacated by Sen. Bill Finkbeiner, who retired. I am running this year against Rep. Roger Goodman, who won the House seat I vacated in 2006 to run for the Senate.

As for your statement on my being "pro-abortion", I will leave that up to readers to determine for themselves. Suffice it to say that I have never been endorsed or supported by Planned Parenthood or NARAL, and they have spent tens of thousands of dollars on campaign ads to defeat me, because they see me as an opponent.

Toby Nixon - as a reader of this blog, I am interested in knowing what your stance is on abortion. A few questions that I would like you to answer so that I may determine for myself (a reader) whether you are pro-abortion or not. Ready?

1) do you believe that all human life is sacred, from the moment of conception to the end of natural life?

2) do you believe that a fetus, embryo, is a separate entity from its mother?

3) do you believe in protecting life in the womb from the moment of conception until it is born?

4) do you believe that a woman who is raped has the 'right' to an abortion?

5) do you believe a woman who is a victim of incest has a right to an abortion?

6) do you believe that Plan B is a good drug?

7) do you believe that a woman has the right to make a decision on whether or not to have an abortion for whatever reason, after all it is her body?

So - those are questions that can be answered with a yes, or a no. You can explain your answers with a line or two and then I, the reader, will be able to figure out whether you are pro-abortion or not.

How's that for fairness?

Bless you -

Oh Toby Nixon - - your silence is deafening!

I can only assume that you cannot answer the questions that I posed above because you are pro-abortion and you, like millions of others, wish to remain on the fence.

But, I will tell you, by doing so, you run the risk of losing your soul. Abortion is a killer, Toby.

Blessings -

Toby --
Our opinion of your politics and whether we would vote for you is not based on what other people say. Rather, it is based on what you say about yourself. As it stands now you have stated that you support the abortion of unborn children and the legal use of violence against certain groups of people.
I know the term "pro-abortion" irritates and doesn't quite capture the scope of your position but it does require readers to think long and hard about what exactly you are saying. Luckily for you some readers will choose not to think because it will force them to consider their own position.
For the sake of these children and their mothers (and fathers) please reconsider your position.
What do you say about ESCR?
Have you received or will you receive donations from companies, organizations, etc. which are experimenting on embryos, seeking government funding of ESCR, or do IVF?
I'll leave you with this --
"Not to oppose error is to approve it, and not to defend truth is to suppress it and indeed to neglect to confound evil men when we can is no less a sin than to encourage them." Pope Saint Felix III
Blessings to you and your family,
Mary

I think we all need to remember that we can't change the current federal law within the state legislature. The best we can do is to nibble away at the edges of a flawed and fatal Supreme Court decision that needs to be re-visited, given modern technological advances that clearly show that life begins at conception. Nixon's approach is to limit abortion in this state by passing laws that require parental involvement. There are other laws we could pass that would severely impact the pro-abortion position of this state's laws. So, who is willing to spend the time and energy and money to go to Olympia and lobby? Don't cut off your nose to spite your face! Get involved, be passionate, and take those steps to end the scourge of abortion in our culture. But don't undermine those who are willing to enter the battle just because they don't agree with you 100%. You won't ever find a perfect candidate, so start here and dialogue!

Dear Anonymous --
Thank you for your comments.
The state legislature, and governor for that matter, could do a lot to stop the culture of death here. Number 1 -- get the state of Washington out of the abortion business. Take all referals to abortion centers off of state web sites. Quit teaching kids where to go for abortion. Get Planned Parenthood out of the schools.Make protecting life the primary position of the state. Right now the state favors abortion. It is NOT neutral.
Did Toby try to get a parental notification bill passed? Did he submit one? What did he do for the cause of life? Toby doesn't appear to have the will to "enter the battle."
Please explain how voting for a pro-abortion choice candidate will help restore a culture of life.
This site is all about dialogue. And in that spirit we'd still like the answers to the questions above. Specifically -- How will Toby put forth an anti-abortion bill that rids us of abortion but allows the ESCR he apparently wants? You can't do it. He doens't even understand the contradictions in his own position!
We don't want a perfect candidate. We just want a candidate who doesn't promote the killing of innocent children. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Toby Nixon has an interesting way of restating, "personally, I am against abortion, but . . ."

Reading his positions, he is against going against the "will of the people," or "consensus." Regarding, the statewide smoking ban, however, he says, " . . . we have seen a number of problems with its implementation . . ." and proceeds to talk about necessary ways to fix the problem. So, on smoking, he is willing to go against "the will of the people" but when it comes to killing children, haven't we "seen a number of problems with it implementation"?

Anonymous - while it may be true there are limits on what a legislator can do to cure the problem of abortion, does that mean he is unable to stand on his own two feet and speak the truth about a great evil?
