Lies Repeated, Lies Believed

In one of the most educated and wealthiest regions of the country, maybe the world, we get this guest opinion in the Seattle PI.

Maybe Alan Thein Durning would like to talk to Holly Patterson's or Christin Gilbert's dad to find out what they think about Roe. He could also talk to the parents of these teenagers.

Naw. It's easier to repeat the lies that have worked for 35 years. Here's just a sample:

"And they'll (women) remain fertile until menopause in their early 50s." (Unless they are left infertile after years of birth control use, abortion, or STD(s).)

"Overturning Roe would not prevent these abortions from happening." (Damned if we do, damned if we don't. And don't let the facts get in the way.)

"It would also delay those abortions by a few weeks, somewhat increasing the minuscule health risks of legal abortion." (Repeat after me: legal abortion is safe, legal abortion is safe, legal abortion is safe...)

"The day after Roe, the red-blue U.S. election map would begin turning into a hazard map for low-income women." (Hello? Have you done your research? Poor women are the most victimized by legal abortion.)

"In deep red states, reproductive rights would become a class system. Daughters of fortunate families would go to blue states to get abortions. Daughters of unfortunate families would risk abortions from clandestine providers close to home, or order the abortion pill from shady Internet operators, or attempt to induce abortions themselves, as did thousands before Roe." (You don't know shady until you've been to a legal abortion mill.)

"Unwanted births bring more infant deaths, more abuse and neglect, more school failure, more foster care and juvenile courts and more mothers who blame themselves." (And what would you call the current problem of infant deaths, abuse and neglect, school failure, foster care and juvenile courts and mothers who blame themselves? I'd call it "legal abortion".)

Probably the saddest and cruelest line in the whole editorial is this:

"It (overturning Roe) would deny them the sense they live in a country that stands up for all women. It would rob them of another reason to believe that as Americans, we're not just a collection of workers and consumers who happen to share a currency, we're a nation. We're all in this life together."

I would wager a guess that a woman whose had an abortion probably feels the most betrayed by this country -- a country that failed to stand up for her and her child when they needed us most. The ideal of a working democracy that under normal circumstances would have reigned in embarrassed parents, selfish boyfriends/husbands, and opportunistic abortionists, was abandoned and we said instead, "You're in this life alone". A nation that once relied on churches and the community to help the lost souls of this world turned to the government as god, deciding right and wrong, judging and condemning, and suddenly "personal responsibility" and "individual rights" sprang up as the heretofore unstated founding ideals of our nation. Today these phrases are repeated mantra like by those seeking elected office in an effort to soothe our guilty conscience and rob us of hope. Women have gotten the message loud and clear as evidenced by the 50 million abortions since 1973. Ideology and the lies listed above conspired to turn the truth on its head in the name of progress. Roe does not stand up for any women. It stands up for those working against every women. It is at its core anti-woman.

Abortion indeed tells a woman that she is just a worker, a consumer, a cog in the wheel and there is no room for her and her baby. The country needs her out there buying all the things Planned Parenthood and America's industries have to sell us in our vanity; all the things they want us to buy that babies seem to get in the way of. Is it any wonder that the biggest contributors to Planned Parenthood are some of America's biggest industries. All the while she must keep working-working-working so that she can pay-pay-pay.

Abortion Supporters Lead State GOP Group and "Conservative" Judicial PAC

There are two groups in Washington now, both run by "adamantly pro-choice" Alex Hays, that voters in Washington need to be aware of: The Washington Mainstream Republicans and the Constitutional Law PAC. The leadership of both these organizations are perennial advocates and supporters of legal abortion and have shown an unwillingness to promote pro-life candidates or push pro-life legislation. However, they do hope to gather pro-life votes and funds. They hope to do this by convincing pro-lifers and conservatives that they really don't like abortion and that sadly there is nothing they can do about abortion law in the state. According to them we should all do the polite, rational and sensible thing and leave abortion out of debates over our elected officials. Here's Alex Hays, Executive Director of the Constitutional Law PAC, on David Postman's blog of July 14th.

Regarding NARAL:
Abortion is not an issue for state courts. It is entirely a federal court issue. (Oh, really?) No abortion rights cases have come before Washington's courts in over a generation. (That would be because there has been no legislation.) Further if Owens, Alexander, or any other candiate (sic) has disccused (sic) even their personal beleifs (sic) about abortion they've violated an ethics rule prohibitting (sic) that. Therefor (sic) it should be imposible (sic) to say who is "pro-choice" or "pro-life".

On a personal note I'm the Executive Director of the Constitutional Law PAC and I am adamantly pro-choice. (Thanks for letting us know, Alex.) To my knowledge every member of the board of the Constitutional Law PAC is pro-choice. (Also good to know. The board includes former senator Slade Gorton.)

No reasonable basis exists for injecting abortion into a debate about state judicial elections...and I hope we can keep it that way. (Why? You've managed to insert the debate over property rights so why not abortion?) The Washington State Constitution contains the strong protections for privacy rights -- an important fact I learned from Justice Jim Johnson.

His whole statement makes me sick to my stomach. "Abortion is not an issue for the state courts." Who is he trying to kid? Ask New Hampshire. Ask Missouri. Ask Mississippi if abortion isn't an issue for state courts and state legislatures. Ask a dozen other states for that matter.

Is Alex Hays trying to tell us that the Washington State constitution allows for abortion-on-demand and that no matter who we elect or what laws we pass we are stuck with the current level of political and financial support for abortion? Alex Hays says abortion isn't an issue for the state courts because Alex Hays doesn't want it to be an issue for the state courts. He and his cohorts at CLPAC simply do not want any laws passed that would restrict abortion.

The PAC's Hays said Groen and Johnson aren't "outside the mainstream because they have a perfect deference to the law and the constitution." He called Johnson "very much a centrist" and Groen "a passionate defender of freedom."

And,

Hays said the group's main focus is for judges to have a conservative stance on things like property rights and water rights.

"All the various parts of the constitution that liberals like are pretty well protected, but the part of the constitution that conservatives like have suffered in recent years," Hays said. "I want to create a balance there. We really want property rights to have the same enthusiasm in the court as free speech does."

Speaking of groups that don't want any laws passed that would restrict abortion, Alex Hays is also the Executive Director of the Washington Mainstream Republicans. Check out the names listed as members. The majority of the board members of WMR were either involved in legalizing abortion in Washington and/or currently believe in continued "access to legal abortion." You can listen to them talk all about it here at their latest conference. Even so-called conservative KVI talk show host Brian Suits comes out showing his support for abortion by using the laughable phrase "access to legal abortion." It's the same old story -- Nobody likes abortion but they love having it legal.

Here is their asinine and pathetic statement of principle on life:

We value life and seek to protect it - We should not attempt to legislate a definition of life.

We won't define what life is, that way we are off the hook when it comes to protecting it. How convenient. What's their opinion of our murder laws? It's an absolutely disgusting statement and anybody associated with this group should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.

I didn't know that the bill was given that name until I went and read it. Seems as though the MSM has blacked out the title in favor of "SD abortion ban". In fact, if you do a Google search on the full title you get the a link to the actual bill, a FindLaw (a legal web site) article, and some blog articles. But that's about it.

Laughing All The Way to the Bank

Another tacky and tasteless fundraiser from Washington NARAL happens tonight.

NON-PROFIT COMEDY! Whoopie!! Where else can you laugh about the approximately 25,000 abortions a year in Washington state?

McGavick Comes Out as Pro-Choice

This came out in a Seattle PI article in early March but I missed it at the time.

McGavick says he supports a woman's right to an abortion. But unlike Cantwell, he would require parental consent for underage females and ban so-called "partial-birth" abortions, and he opposes federal funding of abortions.

So there you have it.

"Tantamount to Preventing Human Life"

Remember that while many government resources are available to help a woman facing crisis pregnancy, the official policy of Washington state is to treat birth and abortion as equally valid and acceptable choices. The state of Washington and its employees do not necessarily encourage women to carry their children to term or discourage them from seeking abortions. I spoke personally with one woman who hadn’t even considered abortion until a state employee suggested it to her. The state sees abortion as the "cheaper" alternative and depending on the circumstances the state may gladly recommend abortion and/or refer out for it. This attitude was most recently and blatantly on display when proponants of the Morning-After-Pill on-demand stated before the Board of Pharmacy and the media that pushing this drug into the hands of women had saved the state millions of dollars. Some very wonderful and very sad news:
Recently, we were able to persuade a mother named “Kathy” to let her babies live. We offered her the usual love, friendship and financial help if necessary. She was four months pregnant with twins and going into the mill to begin the abortion procedure. She agreed to let us help her. She said that she would carry the babies to birth and then adopt them out to a deserving couple. We were really elated!! That was the good news. The sad news is that she miscarried 3 weeks later. Both children were born dead. She named the boy Alpha and the girl Omega. It was a difficult time for all of us, but we went ahead, with “Kathy’s” okay, and held an informal burial service for Alpha and Omega at Gethsemane Cemetery. It was truly a beautiful experience. We laid the precious children to rest with love for their mother, scripture, prayer and song.

I tell you all these things, so that you will see our need, and be willing to continue your financial support. Thank you for your past prayers and generosity. Please send what you can. One thing we need to do soon is to buy a grave marker for the babies. God gave us the opportunity to make a strong statement. God gives life, life is sanctified and precious. Sound Politics also posted a story this week about the retirment of Marcy Bloom. Matt Rosenberg the author of the post is disturbed that some people still find abortion normal. (I'm confused about why he says "still" find abortion normal. Did anyone ever find abortion normal?) Anyway, if he wants a mind bend he should try surfing the Washington State Department of Health web site to read how they talk about abortion. He'll find all kinds of abnormal thinking about how normal abortion is. If he really wants to set get disturbed I recommend reading the RCWs regarding abortion.

Matt also relates the story of overhearing a conversation between two young men as he passed them in the 300 block of W. North Ave. "My girlfriend has had like FOUR abortions...." (followed by admiring, slightly incredulous laugh).

In the comments, "Sabina" who works for the Aradia Women's Clinic in downtown Seattle, attempts to "clarify a few points." It's a mish-mash, but for some reason she thinks readers are uninformed about the women who are having abortions.

please, this is not hard to understand, so please please please listen and now you'll know: women who have abortions are the SAME women who have babies!!!!!!!!
61% of women who have abortions are ALREADY mothers. The vast majority of young women who have abortions because they feel ill-equipped to nurture and care for a child for the next eighteen years of their lives are the SAME women who go on
to have children - yes, even 2, 3 or 4 children. Can you believe it?!

Yes, Sabina we can believe it because we know these women. Some of them are part of the pro-life movement. Some of them are not. Either way they've told us about the pressures to abort. The threats from boy friends and husband and parents. The general lack of support. The abortion center workers who find a woman's weak point ("I just don't feel ready to be a mother/have another child.") and play off of that rather than offering helpful alternatives.

Marcy Bloom Flees to South America

...Well, not exactly but the fact that she has such an affinity for South American reminded me of some other folks who found refuge there at the end of World War II after they uhm...retired.

Just last year she carried a suitcase of abortion implements with her on a vacation to Mexico to give to a women's clinic there.

Still, many others have come to see Bloom as the face of a place that has provided about 70,000 abortions over the past 30 years.

Bloom says she may write a book. Or work with clinics in Latin America.

On the other hand it could be her extreme bigotry, ignorance and hatred of the Catholic Church that drives her to help abortionists in South America.

MB: A woman was having an abortion recently and she was holding a rosary, and she told us that the anti-choice people had given her the rosary. But she kept it because she found the rosary comforting, which was interesting. They gave it to her for a different reason, and to her it was comforting because she believed in a free, giving, and loving god.

It was fascinating to see that she took what for them was a symbol of punishment and she made it her own. That's the way it should be. Spin it in the loving-God way, because that is what God and religion are supposed to be about, though they have gotten seriously distorted over the last few thousand years.

Pray for the conversion of Marcy Bloom and the deliverance of Latin American from our country's abortion export business.

Never Had One Moment of Regret

If you don't believe there is a culture war. If you don't believe Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood have a eugenic past or present. If you believe the "Religious Right" and the Catholic Church are trying to force their views on you. If you don't believe the Democratic party is the party of death, then this memo is for you. See Tab F.

Below is a sampling from this recently released memo from Ron Weddington (ex-husband to Roe v. Wade litigator Sarah Weddington) to the Clinton White House Transition Team that turned up in a Judicial Watch review of documents related to the FDA approval of RU-486.

Discussing creation of a non-profit to market and distribute RU-486 in the United States:

It's possible that such an endeavor could be a vehicle for a number of birth control efforts. Something's got to be done very quickly. 26 million food stamp recipients is more than the country can stand.

Discussing how to create a "better educated, healthier, wealthier population":

...[Y]ou can start immediately to eliminate the barely educated, unhealthy and poor segment of our country...

I'm not proposing that you send federal agents armed with Depo-Provera dart guns into the ghetto. You should use persuasion rather than coercion. You and Hillary are a perfect example. Could either of you gone to law school and achieved close to anything close to what you have if you had three or four or more children before you were 20? No! You waited until you were established and in your 30s to have one child. That is what sensible people do...

You made a good start when you appointed Dr. Elders, but she will need a lot of help. You will have to enlist the aid of sports and entertainment starts to counteract the propaganda spread by church officials seeking parishioners...

Condoms alone won't do it. Depo-Provera, Norplan and the new birth control injection being developed in India are not a complete answer, although the savings that could be effected by widespread government distribution and encouragement of birth control would amount to billions of dollars. No, the government is also going to have to provide vasectomies, tubal ligations, and abortions...RU-486 and onventional abortions. Even if we make birth control ubiquitous as sneakers and junk food there will still be unplanned pregnancies.

Then there's the post script...

In direct mail marketing the post script is usually the most important part of a letter. It includes the call to action and is the heart of the appeal. Even though fun to read, you can usually skip the 4-page introduction and go right to the P.S. to see the purpose of the appeal and the unvarnished point of the letter. Mr. Weddington's letter to Bill Clinton isn't a true direct mail piece but the post script to this letter seems to tell it all.

P.S. I was co-counsel in Roe v. Wade, have sired zero children and one fetus, the abortion of which was recently recounted by my ex-wife, in her book A Question of Choice. I had a vasectomy in 1969 and have never had one moment of regret.

Women are (Guinea) Pigs

That seems to be how U.S. "health" experts view women anyway.

Vioxx gets pulled and RU-486 gets "advice from outside experts to decide what research is needed to understand and track the infections."

Overall, most experts from state public health offices, hospitals and universities encouraged further study.

Of course they did. Washington State politicians and "health" officials love RU-486. That's why Christine Gregoire as Attorney General decided that ARNPs could start administering the drug. We now have 13 such new abortion practicioners who administered 3,364 such abortions in 2004 with 91 reported complications and 2,985 such abortions in 2003 with 45 reported complications.

Anti-abortion Display and Pro-abortion Violence Hit WWU. Students Confused

Western junior David Zhang was charged with first degree malicious mischief Wednesday. University Police officer Chris Davis said Zhang damaged anti-abortion posters in Red Square Tuesday.

Zhang was in court Wednesday for his first court appearance. Zhang said the court set his arraignment for May 12, and he plans to plead not guilty.

I guess some people didn't like the photos of the aborted fetuses, to the point of denying that the fetuses are even alive.

Western junior Julia Rink is a member of Voices For Planned Parenthood, a student group that promotes sexual awareness and reproductive health rights on campus. She said the Genocide Awareness Project’s name is inaccurate.

“There’s still a debate over if the fetus is living or not,” Rink said. “You can’t say it’s genocide if it’s not living. It’s only a comparison if you consider a fetus to be alive.”

Sign this girl up for biology 101. (Ms. Rink's "superiors" at Planned Parenthood later distanced themselves from Ms. Rink after informing her that she does not speak for Planned Parenthood and is not allowed to "interview for any kind of press release.")

The editorial in the Western's student newspaper, using the terms "anti-abortion" and "pro-choice" complained about the display's "polarizing" effect and lamented that "lost in the shouting was a reasoned, logical debate."

It's hard to have a reasoned, logical debate when one side is called "anti-abortion" and the other side is called "a student group that promotes reproductive health rights" or "pro-choice" for short. It's even harder when students are unable to determine when someone is dead or alive.

Five hundred years from now, people will look back on surgical abortions the way
we look back on the butchery of medieval barbers. Like the barbers, we're trying
to help people to the best of our ability. But our ability is growing. So should our wisdom, and our ambitions.

This statement comes from an very long article about abandoning Roe in order to save Roe by William Saletan and was published in the Seattle Times about a week ago.

It's a strategy doomed to failure in my opinion because it relies on contraception and sex education to avoid second and first trimster abortions and make "Roe irrelevant." The abortion industry must surely know their abortion revenue is a function of the amount of sex-ed and contraception can be found in the society at large. Roe might be the license but sex-ed and contraception are the marketing.

Like the writings of so many abortion strategists and defenders, there's always a warped through-the-looking-glass aspect to their arguments. Because so many of them are unwilling or unable to see the very concept of abortion as wrong, they must seek to fix or perfect the unseemly, ugly aspects of abortion. All the while conveniently forgetting the promises of the earlier brand of abortion: Progress. Wealth. Safety. Health. Freedom. Life. Happiness. Yet today here we are comparing surgical abortion to the butchery of medieval barbers. Maybe if we slap a "New! Improved!" label on it people will buy it all over again.

It is a utopian project with a blind faith in the power of the human mind and human reason to make a better, new and improved abortion that will ultimately render it "good" or at least acceptable. Rather than understanding that man is both body and spirit, they put all their faith in the ability of the human mind to dominate the material world, including the body. It is a Manicheist mind-set that pits man against himself.

Manichæism professed to be a religion of pure reason as opposed to Christian credulity; it professed to explain the origin, the composition, and the future of the
universe; it had an answer for everything and despised Christianity, which was full of mysteries. It was utterly unconscious that its every answer was a mystification or a whimsical invention; in fact, it gained mastery over men's minds by the astonishing completeness, minuteness, and consistency of its assertions.

Mr. Saletan believes that our growing "wisdom" and "ability" will improve abortion and create the next promised abortion utopia. Abortion technology in the form of a pill is today's latest and greatest wisdom. Does Mr. Saletan not know that "abortion pills" were around long before surgical abortion? Calling a pill or a chemical "technology" does not change the nature of abortion nor remove the stain of "medieval butchery." The attempt to "set the light-substance [of abortion] free from the pollution of matter" can never happen because it is a conceptual and material impossibilty and the attempt to even do so is moral and mental madness. Abortion in the form of a pill (RU-486 or Plan B) is simply a new bottle for an old product.

More Violence Against Pro-lifers

This time it's in Vancouver, BC not far from the Washington-Canada border.

On April 7th, a peaceful pro-lifer in Vancouver, BC was assaulted while protesting outside and abortion center there. At the link above you can view a video of the attack.

The month of April also saw a pro-abortion professor at Northern Kentucky University destroy a pro-life display on campus there. The attack took place on or around April 14th and was videotaped by students.

Pushing Plan B

Here is some interesting information I just came across thanks to Christina at RealChoice: The Alan Gutmacher Institute just came out with this report on state rankings for access to contraception.

Washington ranked 4th for "laws and policy." The only thing bringing our state down was a "refusal clause" (or more accurately what I call a "must fill" clause for contraceptives). And whaddya know? --This is exactly what the Washington Board of Pharmacy is working at the behest of Planned Parenthood to implement.

Overall our state ranked 11th to "Help women avoid unintended pregnancy."

A high abortion rate did not seem to affect a state's standing at all. California with the highest abortion rate is ranked #1 in "Helping women avoid unintended pregnancy." Go figure.

You'll also note that the state is broken down into congressional districts showing the "need for services."

I haven't had time to dig into this document and analyze it too much but who wants to bet that this is Exhibit A in "proving" that women are underserved in our state when it comes to access to contraception and Plan B must be mandated as a stocked drug in every pharmacy?

AIW Patiently Explains it to Seattle PI Reporter

Susan Paynter's column in the April 24th edition of the Seattle PI is yet another trite, and sorry to say boring piece, from the abortion industry's reliable old defender -- the Seattle PI. From reading her misrepresented "facts" and outright errors I can only conclude that her article was pulled together from a publisher's press release and an old Karen Cooper interview.

Ms. Paynter's worship of contraceptives would be laughable if it were not completely based on falsehoods. Contraceptives permeate the society. Nothing, and I mean nothing, stands in the way of a woman getting contraceptives, condoms, you name it, in this state. They pass them out like M&Ms in the schools, clinics and doctor's offices. If you don't understand that the purpose of Plan B (the morning after pill) is to increase the number of first-time abortions then you are more gullible than I realized. Do you really think the abortion industry and lobby wants the abortion rate to go down? Do you know of any industry that wants to put itself out of business?

If Ms. Paynter knew anything about the pro-life movement she would never make such an ignorant and callous statement about pro-lifers believing that "women having abortions are a bunch of irresponsible singles having promiscuous sex." Many of the women in the pro-life movement are women who've had abortions or have family members who were victimized by abortion providers. They know better than anyone how women end up on the receiving end of a vacuum aspiration machine while the father drives away never to be seen again. They know about the coercion from parents, husbands, boyfriends, and the general influence of newspapers like the PI that continue to put a happy face, or P.R. as Ms. Paynter calls it, on abortion. How about interviewing a few real-life local pro-life leaders instead of holding up the usual strawmen?

Did you know that Advanced Nurse Practitioners are now allowed to administer chemical (RU-486) abortions in Washington state, despite provisions in Washington law prohibiting non-physicians from performing abortions, and that reported complications have increased since this drug was introduced to Washington? So much for safe abortion. Why don't you do an investigation into that? If you care so much about safe abortion why don't you do an investigative piece on the reliability of the state's abortion statistics, admittances to emergency rooms from botched abortions and infections, and follow-up by a woman's regular physician that don't get reported. Why won't you take an honest look at the link between breast cancer and abortion? One of the leading researchers in this field works at Fred Hutchinson. How about an article on some of the local abortion recovery programs? Ms. Paynter's problem is that she is stuck in 1969. She and the PI Editorial Board are the flat-earthers of the new millennium.

You are right -- let's move away from the "incendiary rhetoric." I challenge the Seattle PI to start publishing Washington state's abortion stats on a yearly basis. No commentary. Just the data. You won't do it because 25,000 abortions a year in this state is bad P.R. for the abortion industry. Isn't it about time the PI took an honest look into Washington's abortion industry instead of repeating the same old tired clichés. There are too many women who've had abortions and know the truth. You aren't fooling them anymore.

I doubt you'll take on any of my challenges or even print this letter because you don't care about women or women's health. As Ms. Paynter admitted herself, you care about good P.R. for abortion.

Right to Life Club Aims to Expose Rhetoric vs. Reality

The Gonzaga University Right to Life Club will host an opportunity for the public to hear Spokane area women tell their personal stories about abortion in a forum that is free and open to the public and begins at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 25 in the Spokane Room of the COG.

The event is designed to bring greater awareness of the profound and long-lasting impact abortion can have on those women who undergo the procedure and, often, the men who would have been fathers.

"One in five of all (U.S.) abortions performed are oncollege women," said Nick Paradis, president of Gonzaga University Right to Life. "Sadly, the promises of legal abortion did come true for the many women who chose abortion during their college years. Their education, health, and welfare were compromised and in many cases severely damaged. The time is right to hear the truth about abortion from the women who have experienced it."

The event is part of Silent No More Awareness, an international campaign in which Christians seek to inform the public about the devastating impacts abortion brings to both the women and men involved. One of the main speakers is affiliated with the Silent No MoreAwareness campaign, which seeks to expose and heal the secrecysurrounding the emotional and physical pain of abortion. Since officially launching the campaign in January 2003, 3,363 people have registered online, 138 gatherings have taken place in four countries and44 states where 2,005 participants have shared their testimonies, and more than 11,665 spectators have heard the message.
