Just in time for Easter: Rob McKenna Asks the Perennial Question

Would it not be expedient that babies be killed so that I may become governor and the whole state shall not perish?

Right after he blames exalts and excites the mob voters, he kisses the innocent babe says life begins at conception, and finally washes his hands of the whole mess by blaming the mob women.

See and hear it here. If you can stand it.

A Catholic American public official circa 2012 AD: Caiaphas, Judas, and Pilate and rolled into one. Nice.

Constitution 1, Rob McKenna 0

Oops. Rob McKenna bet on the wrong side yesterday.  Rob McKenna believes allowing people to refuse to participate in murder is a violation of the Constitution and Judge Leighton smacked him down.

Court upholds pro-life pharmacists’ objections to dispensing abortifacient contraceptives.

We applaud the court's decision because it was the right one. AIW was at many of the Board of Pharmacy hearings and covered the controversy in-depth. We provided the only public reporting on the incestuous business relationships between Planned Parenthood of Western Washington, the UW School of Pharmacy/Don Downing, Barr Labs, the Board of Pharmacy and the governor of Washington. ALL of them colluded against pharmacists (and others) who said, "Plan B kills and we don't want to be part of it."  Specifically, they targeted Christians and people of conscience.

WE TOLD YOU SO. And the court agrees with US. He sent everyone involved in the selling and promotion of the snake-oil known as Plan B out the door.

In commemoration of all the lives lost to abortion on the 39th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

"It is a shame that a child must die so that you may live as you wish."
--Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Today we mourn the millions of babies who were killed by abortion throughout the United States, but most especially here in Washington State.

It's also a shame that all those women who chose abortion had no one to help them, to walk beside them. No one to show them a different, better way.

Wouldn't it be a shame if Christine Charbonneau of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest had to lose her $265,368 a year salary because she was the CEO of the state's largest baby killing operation? And wouldn't it be a shame if all the politicians who traded away the lives of women and children by giving millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood and concealed their crimes in exchange for power and riches had to give up their big houses and fancy lifestyles and went to jail instead?

Then there's Attorney General and GOP gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna's hometown, Bellevue, Washington host to possibly one of the state's most grusome mass murder sites ever documented.  Wouldn't it be a shame if Rob McKenna had to see those murdered children face to face one day now that he's built his career ignoring the plight of the innocents?  Some people were born to be Herod. Others aspire to it.

Using statistics from the State Department of Health (sic) we calculate that over 1 Million children have been slaughtered in this way in Washington State since 1970. And that doesn't even include the chemical and mechanical abortions facilitated through oral contraceptives and IUDs.

Our state is sick. One can only wonder where and when it will all end. God save us.

Pro-Abortion AG Rob McKenna to Announce Candidacy for Governor

It's been predicted for years now that AG Rob McKenna (R) was planning to run for governor. He's a Catholic and a Republican. He's also "pro-choice". His support for abortion is usually painted as support for women. After all, dead babies don't vote or contribute funds to political campaigns.

My in-box received several notices this week of an impending announcement that he would run for governor. And now the shoe has dropped.

Rob McKenna has abandoned his Catholic faith for political power. As reported to me by one of his old Eagle Scout friends, Rob used to sit around the campfire and plot out his rise to power. The ultimate goal: POTUS.

It's time for the women of Washington state to tell Rob McKenna abortion is bad for women and we won't vote for or contribute funds to anyone who thinks otherwise.

Who is responsible for the Murder of a Million Innocent Children in Washington?

This is a true story about the “powers that be” behind the scenes in the Washington State Republican Party.

What does it mean if a Republican is an “Establishment Candidate”?

All organizations reflect the guiding ideals of their top leaders. The Washington State Republican Party “Establishment” is the “top” of the Washington State Republican Party and the Party has been guided by, essentially, the same group of people since the 1960s. Despite its grassroots being profoundly influenced in the conservative direction by Presidential politics from the national level, the Washington State Republican establishment at the state level has been most influenced by the philosophy and adherents of a single organization (as they are more than happy to tell you) founded in 1964 to turn the Party away from Goldwater conservatism. This is about their top leadership, from the outset.

Another Washington State College Attempts to Silence Pro-Life Speech

You may recall the story out of Spokane in 2009 that AIW reported on here, here and here. It concerned the speech rights of students on the campus of public colleges.

Administrators at Spokane Falls Community College "threatened Beth Sheeran and members of a Christian student group with disciplinary measures, including expulsion, if they chose to hold a pro-life event on campus to share information with other students because the message was 'discriminatory' and did not include a pro-abortion viewpoint."

Now administrators at Olympic College in Bremerton are attempting a similar attack against pro-lifers there.

According to a press release from the Anti-Choice Project, "[f]ollowing a decision made this summer by the Olympic College Board of Trustees, the state college plans to revise its free speech policies, relegating non-students who wish to exercise their First Amendment rights to an obscure location described by the school paper as the “least visible on campus”.

The new regulations were prompted after a member of the Anti-Choice Project brought signs on campus "depicting the bloody body parts of allegedly aborted fetuses."  Despite a NYT Magazine story and countless first person testimonies from people who saw an abortion take place, nearly 100% of the mainstream jounalistic population erroneously believes that these pictures are fake. Despite four years of college and a strong commitment to Darwin and the scientific method, for some mystifying reason, the aborted fetus always remain "allegedly" aborted, or perhaps "allegedly" a fetus, in the eyes of most journalists. This confusion continues in spite of various reports and newstories detailing dead babies found in jars, refrigerators, cardboard boxes and in one case a shipping container filled with thousands of dead fetuses. You'd think people still thought Obama was a Muslim.

The free-speech zone idea appears to have grown out of the good old fashioned American management technique known as, "passing the buck". "It was really a response to the students coming to this office," said Sue Riddle, executive assistant to then-Vice President of Student Services Richard MacLennan.

From there, other time-tested American contributions to civilization such as CYA, public relations and "I'm with stupid" t-shirts took over as an ad hoc committee with the Orwellian sounding name -- First Amendment Task Force -- was formed; a committee specifically designed to do the opposite of what the name implied.

According to the Anti-Choice web site, "The Anti-Choice Project has sought legal counsel at this time." I have a feeling Beth Sheeran could give some recommendations.

Let's hope the AG's office and Rob McKenna don't decide to waste more tax payer dollars to try and silence pro-lifers and keep the truth about abortion from the public like they tried to do in Spokane.

Time to End Tax Funding of Abortions for 'Poor Little Rich Girls'

One of the most interesting revelations from the coverage of the Ballard High School 'Secret Abortion Program' by KIRO Radio's Dori Monson came when an employee of DSHS called in. The caller, who identified herself as Randi, said that not only are we one of the few states where minors can get abortions without parental notification or consent, and not only are we one of the few states where the government -- her department, to be specific -- gladly pays for abortions for low income girls and women, but in fact the taxpayer is picking up the tab for abortions even for 'poor little rich girls' from Mercer Island.

"So if a girl comes in," asked Mr. Monson, "and her family's got money, but she obviously doesn't have access to that money, and she says I can't pay for it, I don't want my parents to know, what does DSHS do?"

Attorney Praises Plaintiff's Courage, Calls Washington College's Policies Some of "Worst Ever Seen"

AIW spoke with Alliance Defence Fund (ADF) attorney Heather Hacker about the significance of the recent free-speech victory in the Spokane Falls Community College case. Ms. Hacker said while some might think this was just a case involving a few students and a small community college somewhere in eastern Washington, "it's definitely much bigger than that".

She said that's not only because the policy changes they secured apply to the entire Community Colleges of Spokane district, but also because the details of the ruling send a message for any nearby university systems as to how they would fare in court if they attempted something similar against their students.

She also pointed out that it's not just a victory for pro-life or Christian students, but for all students. "Spokane Community College officials are now much more aware of the Constitutional rights of their students."

"Unconstitutional on their Face"

Ms. Hacker also told AIW that this was one of the most egregious cases of free speech violations she has ever seen. "The facts of this case were unbelievable," she said.

"The policies even before they were applied were already some of the worst we've ever seen, but the fact that the college went ahead and applied them was incredible."

She pointed out that they knew they were on solid legal ground from the outset, since the judge enjoined the policies orally at the preliminary injunction hearing. "These policies were unconstitutional on their face."

In the end, it was a total victory. "Every policy we challenged they agreed to change," said Ms. Hacker. "We felt it was a complete win."

All this raises the question as to what GOP Attorney General Rob McKenna was doing spending six months defending these outrageous policies. Ms. Hacker confirmed that McKenna, who was ultimately the defendant in the case, had the option of ceding the argument at the outset and not mounting a defense, which would have saved the taxpayer's lots of money, and the plaintiffs lots of stress.

Mr. McKenna's strategy for currying support for his future political ambitions with the base of the Republican Party remains confusing at best.

"Takes Courage"

Ms. Hacker also praised the bravery of the plaintiff, Beth Sheeran. "It takes courage to stand up to your university. You've got to be brave to do this." Despite the extreme nature of the unconstitutionality of the college's policies, legally "we couldn't have brought this case if Beth hadn't stood up for her rights," she explained.

These policies had been in place for some time because no-one else had challenged them, through self-censorship and fear.

"It's just going to get worse and worse if no-one challenges these kinds of restrictions," she added, pointing out that all Christians should be concerned, because ultimately it means a loss of ability even to share the Gospel.

Spokane Falls Community College Loses in Bid To Bully, Silence Pro-Life Students

As if the abortion forces in the Eastern half of the state hadn't suffered enough blows recently -- with the audit of Planned Parenthood of Spokane, Planned Parenthood being told to stay out of Pasco (for now), and Planned Parenthood being kicked out of a new health center in Walla Walla -- but now the administration of Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) just lost a very important free speech case, thanks to the courage of one student and great legal help from the Alliance Defense Fund, and their allies.

The resolution of the closely watched case essentially amounts to a total defeat of the abortion side, including the student government of the school, the administration, and even the Attorney General's office which defended the school.

The case involved a student, Beth Sheeran, from Cheney, Washington. She simply wanted to organize some small meetings and to distribute and display some information to educate her fellow students about the plight of the unborn in this state and country, in particular those babies who are executed in utero due to biological "imperfections".

SFCC officials even went so far as to threaten Miss Sheeran, and other members of a Christian student group, with disciplinary measures, including expulsion, if they chose to hold a pro-life event on campus. The reason? Their information was deemed “discriminatory” and did not include a pro-abortion viewpoint!

According to the Miss Sheeran & the ADF, as she went up the food chain, expecting perhaps to bypass radical leftist students on student government, she instead found officials claiming college policy "prohibited one-sided events and expressive displays on campus." One-sided events not involving abortion frequently occur on the campus, it was pointed out.

Miss Sheeran was later told the group could proceed with their event providing they voted on it, but after they did so, the club’s own faculty advisor told the students their flier was “offensive” and that their event violated the district’s “Stop the Hate” policy -- as well as state law! This advisor, who rebuffed AIW's requests for an interview, said the students could face expulsion if they “offended” anyone.

AIW interviewed the various parties to the case & reviewed the legal briefs in the Spring. One surprising development not mentioned in the coverage was the fact that the State's argument did not include a defense of the college's behavior or policies, but rather a string of denials of nearly all the facts alleged by Miss Sheeran, including disputes over most dates, conversations, and decisions made.

The attorney for the college, since it's part of the Community Colleges of Spokane, and operates under the state government, was Assistant Attorney General Jerry Cartwright. He told AIW that the government had "absolutely no interest nor intention to restrict the free speech rights of anyone".

Miss Sheeran's immense courage in this whole saga is a valiant example to everyone. As a result, not only is her group finally able to tell the simple truth to SFCC students about the great human rights disaster of our time, but now anyone in the Washington State Community College system can stand on her shoulders and exercise their constitutional rights without fear.

This is because the administration and government agreed to change not just their unconstitutional "anti-hate" policies, but no less than four sections of the WAC, the Washington Administrative Code. Another element of the court order is the elimination of the Orwellian-sounding "Bias Incident Response Team".

Most other features of the college system's snitch-on-thy-conservative-neighbor regime dressed up as "anti-hate" programs are also going to be dismantled.

The college also has to pay Miss Sheeran $1,000 in damages, and cough up $45,000 to cover her legal fees.

We commend Beth Sheeran. She's a shining example to all of us. If we had half as much courage in our pulpits in this state as she has demonstrated, we would start to see the culture of death rolled back.

Spokane Falls Community College Claims Pro-life Speech Against Washington Law; McKenna's Office to Defend College

Not to be believed, but yes, SFCC "threatened Beth Sheeran and members of a Christian student group with disciplinary measures, including expulsion, if they chose to hold a pro-life event on campus to share information with other students because the message was 'discriminatory' and did not include a pro-abortion viewpoint."

Read the whole story from the ADF who is representing the students in their law suit against SFCC.

Here's the offending flyer the pro-life students wanted posted in a display case.

What these pro-life students went through, not only with the school administration but with their faculty advisory is outrageous.

Not only were they told that their "pro-life display was 'offensive' and 'discriminatory,' they were also required to also present the opposite point of view during the event.

But here's another whopper, "Defendant McKenzie (Director of Student Funded Programs at the College) also told SFCF’s (Spokane Falls Christian Fellowship) president that Washington is a “pro-choice” state, so SFCF could not use state money for “non-pro-choice” speech events.

And it gets worse, Ms. Kurtz, a professor of English at the College and SFCF faculty advisor, told Ms. Sheeran and SFCF members that the pro-life event violated state law according to Wash. Admin. Code § 132Q-30-242. (Verified Complaint of Plaintiff: pp 10-11) She capped that information off with a lovely, “You don’t want to be expelled, do you?”

How did this woman get selected as faculty advisor to a pro-life group?!

According to the student newspaper The Communicator, the CCS (Community Colleges of Spokane) will be represented by Wash. State Attorney General's Office representative, Jerry Cartwright. Yep. That would be Rob "I will defend a woman's right to choose at every opportunity" McKenna's office.

A preliminary hearing has been set for April 29 at 3:00 p.m. at the Federal District Courthouse in Spokane. Sheeran will have the opportunity to present her case at the hearing.

I think I know some pro-lifers who are going to be paying a visit to SFCC in the near future.

McKenna Waves the Bloody Shirt

Rob McKenna, Attorney General up for re-election this fall, confirmed his pro-abortion choice position for voters today.

"I am pro-choice, and I'm on the record as being pro-choice," McKenna said.

In a statement by John Ladenberg, his democratic opponent, attacking McKenna, what appeared to be an insult to came across as a compliment.

"I believe in choice, and Rob is a believer in right to life,"
Both left no doubt that neither believe in the right to life only the empty code word for death -- "choice".

What struck me about the dispute was its subtle reminder of something fired former US Federal Attorney John McKay said last May at a the Washington Mainstream Republican's annual conference.

"What we've done is take issues like gay marriage and rubbed people's noses in it. ... We raise abortion up on the flagpole every single time to create dissension, to create some line that has nothing to do with what Republicans are about. We should accept people into the party who have divergent views, on immigration, on gay marriage."
Raise abortion up on the flagpole. Raise abortion up on the flagpole.

When I read that statement originally I pondered that phrase. What was he talking about? I never did figure it out but now I think I know. What he was alluding to, whether he knew it or not, was "waving the bloody shirt". The imagery and circumstances are, of course, inverted which would be typical in an age when good is bad and bad is good, but it kind of works in this instance.

Now we get to watch McKenna and Laudenberg see who can wave the biggest, bloodiest shirt.
