The Ultimate Liberal Fantasy

Threatening to bomb a small, weak and defenseless African nation over "sex" comes easy to these people.

This, this, and this are going come easy to people who would kill to make their point.

Seattle Archbishop Urges Catholics to Fight Against Unnatural Unions and Insurance Mandates

In a very grave violation of our religious liberty, the proposed abortion-insurance mandate before the Washington State Legislature similarly would place the Church, Catholic health care and all Catholic organizations and employers in an absolutely impossible situation.
We, the bishops of the Archdiocese of Seattle, have an obligation to make you aware of the seriousness of the situation and to ask for prayer and action to turn back these efforts to deny our constitutionally guaranteed right to religious liberty as a church. In generations past, the people of God, the Church, has always stood up to protect our sacred rights. Today we are again called upon to stand up for these rights. We will do so as loyal Americans and loyal Catholics.

Pro-lifers Rock Olympia for 2011 March for Life; Pro-Aborts not so much

I attended the March for Life in Olympia yesterday. Here's a great picture that was sent to me. It was taken with a wide angle lens. "With a wide angle lens this photographer went to the Hall of Justice steps, to the top of the steps, and couldn't get the whole crowd in one photo."

Here's coverage from the Olympian, which ain't half bad considering they seem to love the abortion industry most days. However, they only estimated the crowd at 4,500. According to my sources the campus police said if the steps of the legislature building were covered with people, that would be 5,000. It was at least 7,000 by my estimation.

The new archbishop, Peter Sartain, of the Archdiocese of Seattle was on hand. Here he is with Karen Rotter from the pro-life committee at St. Michael Parish and Leigh a representative of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

And, well, the pro-aborts just couldn't muster much enthusiasm for their cause.

Catholic Seattle U Publishes Pro-abortion Opinion Piece; Decries Tim Tebow Superbowl Ad

Seattle University does it again.

In an Opinion piece published Wednesday, writer Miss Taylor Olson, sports and opinion editor for the Spectator, decries the "anti-choice" Tebow ad and encourages readers to contact Emily's List and other "progressive" organizations to sign petitions against the ad.

Seems as though the armies of feminism have successfully gagged Miss Olsen and strapped electrodes to her forehead. Sally Jenkins, pro-choice sports writer for the Washington Post, evaded the brain washing with her own editorial that has a lot to teach aspiring feminists and sports writers like Miss Olsen.

On its web site Seattle University claims to be a "Catholic university."

Sadly this isn't the first time Seattle U has produced pro-abortion garbage for consumption.

First there was the "thoughtful conversion" about "faith and reproductive justice" with a panel of pro-abortion speakers, including the chaplain for the local chapter of Planned Parenthood.

Then there was the so-called respectful dialogue on morality and health care reform;  A dialogue that the organizers denied was meant to include the primary moral issue of the day: abortion.

God help Seattle U.

Seattle Archdiocese to Host Pro-Abortion Rep. Jay Inslee at Cathedral; Abortion and Euthanasia Center Representative also to Speak

Updated: 4:54 Nov. 10 --
Received notice at about 3:30 today from the Archdiocese of Seattle that the "Morality of Health Care Reform" discussion has BEEN MOVED to Seattle University. Yipee! It's still too bad that our Catholic schools feel compelled to host this kind of thing but at least they won't be defiling the Cathedral.

-----

If you haven't heard by now, St. James Cathedral has decided to host the strangely titled forum, "The Morality of Health Care Reform: The debate's missing link".

Pro-abortion legislator Jay Inslee is one of the invited speakers. He was demoted from "keynote" speaker status to panelist late last week. Laura Rehrmann, president of the Group Health Foundation and "in-charge of patient care" at Group Health Cooperative will also be on the panel. Group Health has a reputation as an abortion center and will allow doctors to assist with suicides at their "health" centers after the passage of I-1000. Ms. Rehrmann is a parishioner at St. James Cathedral.

Why is the Cathedral allowing this event to take place?

Pro-Life Action Item

Health care reform IS About saving lives NOT destroying them.

On Saturday evening, Nov. 7 the congress of the U.S. approved the Stupak-Pitt amendment to HB 3962 by a vote of 240-194. This amendment, a pro life Statement true and true said to government “remove abortion funding and mandates from health care reform” period.
Jay Inslee voted against this Amendment, in other words, support abortion at any cost, regardless of the consequences on the mothers and their preborn babies!

So Much for Dialogue

The Seattle area has a little know connection with Fr. Jenkins of Notre Dame University -- Rick Steves of Europe through the Back Door, a very popular travel show on public television, is married to Fr. Jenkins' sister Anne.

Rick Steves is an abortion advocate and sits on the Honorary Council of Washington NARAL.

One of Fr. Jenkins' excuses for inviting pro-abortion president Obama to Notre Dame to receive an honorary law degree is that it will promote "dialogue".

If after years of Thanksgiving dinners and family get-togethers you can't even get your brother-in-law off the radically pro-abortion NARAL Honorary Council how do you expect to get POTUS off his wildly pro-abortion ideals?

Prayer Vigil and Procession to Everett Planned Parenthood

A Pro-life Prayer vigil marking the thirty-sixth anniversary of the Roe versus Wade Supreme Court decision was held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2501 Hoyt Avenue, Everett, WA.

The program began with Morning Prayer followed by Mass and a prayerful walk to the local Planned Parenthood Clinic. Mass intentions and music selections focused on the unborn and their mothers. Officiating at Holy Mass was Auxiliary Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, Archdiocese of Seattle, and Fr. Brian Hersey, pastor of Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic parishes.

Patty Bellows, vigil organizer, said, “Our purpose is to ask Almighty God to change the hearts of those seeking an abortion and the conversion of the hearts of those who provide abortions.” At the conclusion of Mass, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction, a procession and recitation of the Most Holy Rosary was prayed.

During the Homily, Fr. Hersey told a story relating to Mother Teresa. A reporter once inquired of her, “How can you continue to bring children into this world?” Mother Teresa simply answered, “Bring them to me.”

Lunch was served by the Knights of Columbus Councils Everett #763 and Marysville #7863 and the Youth Ministry ClubSix56. Additionally, members of John F. Kennedy Assembly #1530 participated in regalia. Nearly 225 people attended this peaceful, powerful and prayerful vigil.

40th Anniversary of Humane Vitae

This week the Catholic Church celebrated the 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humane Vitae. Catholic or non-Catholic, love or hate the Church, everyone should read it for a full understanding of what the Church actually teaches and to help form your own conscience on contraception.

Here is one of the most prophetic sections of the encyclical:

Consequences of Artificial Methods
17. Responsible men can become more deeply convinced of the truth of the doctrine laid down by the Church on this issue if they reflect on the consequences of methods and plans for artificial birth control. Let them first consider how easily this course of action could open wide the way for marital infidelity and a general lowering of moral standards. Not much experience is needed to be fully aware of human weakness and to understand that human beings—and especially the young, who are so exposed to temptation—need incentives to keep the moral law, and it is an evil thing to make it easy for them to break that law. Another effect that gives cause for alarm is that a man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional equilibrium, reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should surround with care and affection.

Finally, careful consideration should be given to the danger of this power passing into the hands of those public authorities who care little for the precepts of the moral law. Who will blame a government which in its attempt to resolve the problems affecting an entire country resorts to the same measures as are regarded as lawful by married people in the solution of a particular family difficulty? Who will prevent public authorities from favoring those contraceptive methods which they consider more effective? Should they regard this as necessary, they may even impose their use on everyone. It could well happen, therefore, that when people, either individually or in family or social life, experience the inherent difficulties of the divine law and are determined to avoid them, they may give into the hands of public authorities the power to intervene in the most personal and intimate responsibility of husband and wife.

Remember, this was published in 1968. Does anyone doubt that these prophesies have come to pass.

Our state and nation promote the chemical sterilization of women through billions and billions of dollars given to Planned Parenthood and all the government agencies that push contraceptives on the American public. We also have massive overseas "family planning" programs under the auspices of the UN, USAID, World Bank and other governmental agencies that push contraceptives as tools to "fight poverty" and "promote security". Have we not given "into the hands of public authorities the power to intervene in the most personal and intimate responsibility of husband and wife"?

Where are the libertarians, athiests, free-thinkers, demanding the government stay out of our personal lives?

This last week we were treated to news that "pro-choice" Commissioner for Public Lands, Doug Sutherland, was accused of, and admitted to, basically feeling-out a female subordinate and alluding to meeting up with her at her field office.

Yuck.

In his "pro-choice" contraceptive/abortion soaked mentality it seems as thought Mr. Sutherland has forgotten "the reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional equilibrium, reduc[ing] her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires."

Where are the liberals, feminists, and pro-choice libertarians aghast at this clear violation of a woman's freedom and her body?

When Shepherds Lead

By Christina

We all know the importance of having our bishops and priests be actively involved in the pro-life movement, leading us in helping to end abortion in America.

The power that these spiritual leaders have, being the ones that we trust and depend on in our spiritual lives, is frankly amazing! I have seen some wonderful instances of them leading their people in pro-life work, and I am always surprised at what they can bring about, even by giving only a little encouragement to their people.

It’s a part of us to look to our priests and bishops for leadership and guidance. So when they show no interest in pro-life work, their people automatically go the same way. It’s up to the priests and bishops to instill in their people a love for pro-life activism.

Abortion is a spiritual battle, an intense battle between good and evil. This gives our priests and bishops an even greater responsibility to take an active interest in it. And imagine their responsibility to protect their young people from the evil of abortion!

I often truly wonder why they don’t do so very often. I honestly can’t come up with an answer to this one. If I was a priest or a bishop, I would take full advantage of my position to help end abortion. I will never understand otherwise.

After all the long years of study, all the hours of prayer and discernment, all the zeal and dedication that it took for our priests and bishops to get where they are, wouldn’t they be more than ready and eager to do all they can to eliminate the great evil of abortion?! Wouldn’t they be burning to fully excercise their sacred offices?! Wouldn’t they be on fire to do all the good they can?!

I don’t understand.

I think, however, that it is very important for us lay people to very specially help our priests and bishops with pro-life work. We need to be more dedicated to working with and for them, and not just asking and expecting them to do it all. I’ve been recently working with my pastor to do more pro-life activist work at my parish, and he has been very supportive! While asking him for a lot of support and help, I have been taking on a lot of the actual work and personally doing some of the time-consuming jobs. This is very helpful and encouraging to him because he can be involved in pro-life work but does not have to use up all his time on it.

One area that priests and bishops can assist the pro-life movement in a very special way is the 40 Days for Life. There is an incredible story about the success of a bishop leading this campaign in Texas. Wow! He had 89 different churches and 800 people all involved in the 40 Days for Life at one abortion mill! And yes, this mill just shut down! The story can be read here. It is an excellant example of the power that our spiritual shepherds have in leading their people in doing great things for the Church.

May we all do our best to encourage and support our priests and bishops in pro-life activism!

God bless.

The Catholic Mind of Ron Paul

The Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas

I've been meaning to do this for some time now but have only now found a break in January's pro-life activities to come out and officially endorse Ron Paul for presdient.

After reading Ron Paul's statements and listening to his speeches on what Hilarie Belloc called The Crisis of Civilization, I can only conclude that this is a man for our times. Just below the surface of Ron Paul's writings and thoughts one can detect an understanding of the best of Catholic thought --- the principle of subsidiary, just war theory, the problem of usury, and the modern return to slavery and cruelty. The part of his thinking that resonates most deeply with the American public (and the foreign public as well) is Dr. Paul's affirmation of free will over determinism or predestination.

Dr. Paul is offering real hope, hope and belief in the people of this nation to live out the true definition of freedom -- Freedom that is the power, rooted in reason and will, to act or not to act, to do this or that, and so to perform deliberate actions on one's own responsibility. By free will one shapes one's own life. Human freedom is a force for growth and maturity in truth and goodness; it attains its perfection when directed toward God, our beatitude.

Tough Talk from Seattle Archdiocese

Speaking of relativism, the Seattle Archdiocese has been coming out stronger in recent months against the abortion culture and state apparatus that supports it.

Archbishop Brunett made this comment in the May 3rd issue of the Progress last year in reference to the fight to maintain First Amendment rights for pharmacists --

Just before he was elected pope in April of 2005, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger delivered a homily in the Vatican Basilica to the College of Cardinals. In his talk he made the point that having a clear, definitive faith like that proclaimed in the Creed of the Church is today often labeled as fundamentalism.

He said that allowing oneself to be tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine, on the other hand, seemed to be the only acceptable attitude in our current cultural environment. We are building, he said, a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires.

We don't need to look any further than the debate over pharmacists' right of conscience to recognize that he chose his words well. A society that denies individuals the right to act in accord with their conscience is a dictatorship of the most oppressive sort, and among its chief threats are Christians who possess what Pope Benedict XVI calls an adult faith.

Take that Gov. Christine Gregoire.

Now the Catholic newspaper the Northwest Progress has come out with a series of great articles on adoption and abortion. The truth is all there in black and white for anyone with the interest and time to read it.
