Must Read: Rep. Steve O'Ban's Floor Speech on HB 1044

Right not to be Coerced to Take Human Life

Mr. Speaker, this bill is not about one’s views on regulating abortion or a women’s right to choose. This bill is about the value we place on the freedom of conscience. This bill is a test of all of us in this chamber. Do we nurture and celebrate people who follow their conscience? Or, do we burden and undermine conscience? And not just any issue of conscience is at stake.

This bill would force Americans to violate conscience on the most profound moral issue imaginable. This bill would force Americans to assist in taking what they believe to be innocent human life. Since the Quakers in colonial America were jailed for refusing to serve in colonial militias, our nation has affirmed the right of conscience. Their refusal to take life changed colonial laws and in every armed conflict since, Americans have been exempted for conscience sake. Our laws have responded to protect conscience, again and again.
  • Within weeks of Roe v Wade in 1973, every state and the federal gov’t enacted exemptions so doctors would not be forced to take human life.
  • Our state’s physician-assisted suicide laws, exempt physicians from being coerced to take human life.
  •  Our state corrections employees are excused from participating in state executions.
And yet, not since the Quakers were jailed in colonial America, would a law punish Americans who refuse to take human life, until HB 1044. No other state, no other gov’t has broken with the long tradition of our nation protecting conscience in this way, until HB 1044.

Secret Teen Abortions a Worldwide Problem

This was posted on the Drudge Report today.

"New Zealand parents are outraged after learning some schools are helping to keep teenage girls’ abortions a secret, the Sunday Star-Times reports.

One mom is angry that her 16-year-old daughter had a secret abortion allegedly arranged by a school counselor."

Parents must not believe that what happened at Ballard High School a year ago was an aberration or rare occurance that won't happen to their kid.

The counselors are arranging the abortions and calling the taxis. There is nothing these people won't do to sell an abortion.

Our advice: Parents may want to consider restraining orders or Do Not Contact orders against school nurses, counselors and other "health care" personnel prior enrolling a child in a junior high or senior high school.

Abortion Industry Imploding?

Our friends at Operation Rescue have made this comment on their web site and blog, "The abortion movement is failing and the industry is imploding." Other commentators have made similar pronouncements and many see the end of abortion as a very real possibility in the near future.

We certainly see signs of an implosion here in Washington but aren't willing to let our guard down.

Here's what we see from our perch:  Abortion numbers here are down.  From their highs in the 1990s of about 31,000 to about 21,000. This tracks with what we see across the country, for example, as was reported about Kansas abortion numbers this week.

40 Days for Life continues to irritate, upset and close abortion clinics. Just this week we got this notice about events at the Tacoma 40 Days for Life vigil site.
Just wanted to share good news from the front line - PP has been closed SEVERAL days, including at least one last week (may have been 2), then again yesterday (ABORTION DAY!) AND today.  Just a note on the door.  Customers showing up, several of whom we were able to re-direct to CareNet.  On one of the days, Richard, one of the death escorts, showed up.  He apparently saw the note and tried the door.  It was locked.  He got out his cell and made a call, after which he took off.  So it sounds very last minute with no notice even to the volunteers.  Praise be to God!
We've also observed unexpected closures at the Everett 40 Days for Life vigil site and customers who had appointments surprised that the abortuatry was not opened.

Other observations are that staff morale appears low. Deathscorts are few and far between. More babies and moms are being saved.

Parents Frustrated By Lack of Answers on Seattle Schools' Secret Abortion System

As the Seattle City Council considers doubling the Education Levy used to fund in-school "health clinics", they are coming under fire from parents and activists for continuing to undermine parental authority because of their role in secretly putting girls on birth control and even helping setup abortions behind the parents' backs.

Some critics have even called the clinics the first station in an "underground railroad from hell" where the last stop is one of Seattle's unregulated abortion mills.

Defiant in Face of National Scandal
Last year there was a national scandal after it was revealed that a Ballard High School teenager was taken for an abortion during school hours without her parents' knowledge, all arranged by the Ballard "Teen Health Clinic".

The clinic is run under an extremely complicated arrangement that seems almost designed to diffuse blame and obfuscate responsibility. The clinic is at the school, but the school says it has nothing to do with them. The nursing staff are employees of Swedish Hospital, but Swedish refused to answer any questions, saying policy is set by Seattle and King County Public Health (SKCPH).

Parents are left wondering who exactly to go to in order to protest this devious scheme.

We recently spoke with Gary Reynolds, one local parent who, while not a pro-life activist, was outraged by the Public Health's deliberate setup within the schools designed to facilitate secret abortions. He eventually got in touch with James Apa, a senior spokesman for King County Public Health.

One of the main things he wanted to know was whether or not the consent forms parents sign had been fixed. In the Ballard High School scandal, the mother indicated that she had no idea she was consenting to her child being shuttled off to an abortion clinic. Nowhere was that explicitly stated.

City of Seattle Seeking to Renew Funding for Abortion and Contraception thru Families and Education Levy

A concerned citizen alerted us to a Seattle City Council meeting happening tonight, Thursday, at 5:30 pm in downtown Seattle   (See here for details.) At this meeting a renewal of the Families and Education Levy will be discussed. Citizens will be given two minutes to speak.

The Seattle PI has a backgrounder on the Families and Education levy here.

This is the levy that facilitated the abortion of a Ballard High School student last year.

This is the program that funds the so-called health clinics and pays the salaries for the busy-bodies that sell abortions to teens. Maybe your daughter will end up at the Group Health abortion clinic. Don't worry, she'll be safe behind the bullet proof glass. Oh, and by the way they are happy to put your daughter on cancer causing contraceptives behind your back. No questions asked!

Abortion Rules: Is Rep. Cody Working with Planned Parenthood to Subvert Law, Protect Child Sex Abusers?

It's been a very intense two weeks in the fight against Planned Parenthood at the national and local level. And it's not about to simmer down anytime soon.

This week AIW has obtained new direct and damning evidence of crimes happening at Planned Parenthood centers in the state of Washington. Of course, women who've had abortions have known this all along. It's only now that the general public is learning the truth about the abortion industry's dirty secrets.

Readers can see in this Kennewick Police Department report how Planned Parenthood's employee Andrea Smasne holds a 22-week pregnant, 14-year-old girl hostage and refuses to return her to her father. Smasne also holds her so they can complete a referral to Seattle for a late term abortion. When the police arrive, Smasne even disobeys the police officer's order to return the girl to her father, telling him that "once a minor child is pregnant she is emancipated".

Here are the details in the words of the responding officer:
I then asked Smasne how old the patient was. She advised the female patient for 14yoa. I then asked why they would tell the father he had to leave if his juvenile age daughter was there. At that point Smasne stated that once the juvenile is pregnant, the juvenile is emancipated, and further stated the father had no right to be present if the patient did not want him there.
Funny thing but to our ears that sounds just like Rep. Eileen Cody in her "memo" to Rep. Matt Shea that a parental notification bill will not be heard by the Health and Wellness Committee because "over 14 once a girl is pregnant they are considered emancipated - independent."

But is this in fact the law of the state of Washington or another legal fiction developed by promoters of abortion?

Here's what City Attorney Eric Eisinger told the officer after he called about Planned Parenthood's "emancipation" claim,
Based on his research, a Juvenile is not emancipated simply by becoming pregnant. He stated becoming emancipated required a Court process. Eisinger further advised that unless employees of Planned Parenthood provided documentation from the Court indicating that [redacted] is/was emancipated, [redacted] would be required to go with her father [redacted]. I was also advised, if employees at Planned Parenthood could not provided the documentation and did not allow access to [redacted] to send her with father, I should proceed with a criminal investigation against the involved employees citing Custodial Interference Section 26.28 as the charge.
It gets worse.

Group Health Touts Own Abortion Clinic to Attract Residents

If anyone still thinks that abortion is an isolated, never discussed part of mainstream medical practices, all they need to do is a little research to discover that abortion is part and parcel of the establishment medical system.

Group Health is just one example. They are very proud of the abortions they do and don't try to hide it.

Here in the Program Highlights from Family Medicine Residency program with learn about the "Group Health Abortion Clinic" where, "...all residents participate in an opt-out rotation at Planned Parenthood and a small private clinic to train in counseling, early dating ultrasounds, medical and surgical abortions. Additional training is available in the Group Health abortion clinic and at other sites for those interested in additional experience."

We have heard from one woman who had an abortion at Group Health and, though she asked us not to reveal any details about it, we can say that it was an unwanted abortion and it was a horrific experience. We also have been informed that their "Abortion Clinic" in downtown Seattle is actually a ward on the 6th floor complete with bullet proof glass.
