Rates of Chlamydia Rise after Introduction of Plan B to Washington

Starting in 1991 Washington began to see a 6 year decline in rates of Chlamydia. After the introduction of what abortion proponants like to call "Emergency Contraception", and marketed under the name Plan B, rates began to climb back. Planned Parenthood of Western Washington in conjunction with the UW School of Pharmacy, the Washington Board of Pharmacy and others teamed up to launch a pilot project to introduce this drug to Washington residents. The pilot project was conducted from February 1998 to June 1999. The rate of Chlamydia in 1997 was 169.8. In 1998 the rate was 193.4 and has increased every year since then. The rate is now almost 300 per 1,000.

I'd guess it's related to a lapse in condom use.

I'd guess you're trying to mislead all 2 readers of your blog.

You seem to have forgotten half your story. It looks like you're trying to say that increased rates of chlamydia in Washington are due to this Plan B pilot project. Thing is, if we go to the Center For Disease Control And Prevention We see that Washington is hardly alone. Pilot project or no pilot project. Plan B with or without a doctor's prescription, chlamydia rates went up in every part of the country.

Except it didn't go up as fast in Washington.

Rates in your state are 10% lower than the average in the rest of the United States. Rates are highest in the South, the region historically most hostile to sexual education and women's reproductive health care.

You probably forgot to post that part, because without it, your post just looks like some sort of propaganda hack job, so out of balance with the fairness and objectivity displayed on the rest of this site. *snicker*

Free advice; stick with the Jesus stuff and leave the science to the scientists. That way no one can call you on your BS and make you look dumb.

drugnazi - you smart person you! Sex education, free condoms, low cost contraception and your rhetoric have caused more abortions than one cares to think about. Destruction of human life, which is what Plan B is, along with your science makes for a wonderful world. (snicker)

Christ is the answer - the only answer, drugnazi and when you die, science ain't gonna get you anywhere but hell.

Now who is the one who is looking dumb?

DN -- Please. You haven't even begun to contrubute anything worth a second thought as to how we approach the issues of abortion and contraception on this blog. You are simply too bigoted and mired in ideology to really be able to engage with us intelligently on science or religion.
If you'd like more Christian witness on our site you obviously aren't paying attention or reading the posts close enough. Did you want us to quote the Bible? If so, check out: Matthew 13: 9-17
Your stats from the CDC neither prove nor disprove anything about Plan B, the pilot program, or our post. The only salient point that can be made about the post is that correlation is not causation. Something we very much agree with. Obviously it would be great if we could see more research into why the Chlamydia rates are going up nation-wide as well as in individual states. However, the politics, not the science, behind those who promote Plan B will probably not allow for that. They are anti-science and anti-truth and anti-woman.

So what exactly was the point you were trying to make in your original post? I don't wanna call you a liar, but it really,.... really,..... really.... looks like you were trying to make a connection between increased Chlamydia rates and this pilot program:

"Starting in 1991 Washington began to see a 6 year decline in rates of Chlamydia. After the introduction of what abortion proponents like to call "Emergency Contraception", and marketed under the name Plan B, rates began to climb back."

"The only salient point that can be made about the post is that correlation is not causation"

"The pilot project was conducted from February 1998 to June 1999. The rate of Chlamydia in 1997 was 169.8. In 1998 the rate was 193.4 and has increased every year since then."

"Your stats from the CDC neither prove nor disprove anything about Plan B, the pilot program, or our post."

That's an interesting debate you had with yourself there. Of course had it not been for me showing up to call BS, your original propaganda post would have stood as is, unchallenged by you. *snicker*

And, um, yeah, I've noticed the Christian stuff. That would be why I told you you do it much better than when you try science. Tell you what though, since you gave science a crack, why don't I give a shot at this "witness" thing? Here are some of my favorite Bible verses:

Leviticus 25:44

"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves."

that makes me feel a lot better about underpaying my Mexican gardener.

Exodus 21:7

"If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do."

Do you have a daughter? How much for her to become my servant? Do I get a discount if I promise she won't go free at the end of the day the way my Mexican gardener does?

Exodus 35:2

"For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death."

Ever kill anyone whom you saw working on Sunday? If not why? The Bible is very clear on this. You believe in the Bible don't you?

Leviticus 11:10

"But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales—whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water—you are to detest."

Interesting that the Bible uses the same word, "detest", for shellfish that it uses to describe the act of "lying with a man as one lies with a woman"
(Levi 18:22 "detestable") yet I don't see you Christian types harassing seafood houses the way you harass the poor homosexuals. Why is that?

Leviticus 19:19
" "Keep my decrees......
.....'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material."

Might you be wearing a cotton/polyester blend right now? SINNER!!!!!!

All right, You have now been thoroughly defeated on the fields of both science and religion. Lick your wounds and try to recover. I've got a real blog to maintain.

DN - Yep, you're a genius.

drugnazi - interesting that your favorite quotes are from the old testament. Christians know the old testament to be a foreshadowing of the new testament...Christ came to save us from ourselves - - hurray!

What Mary E said!!!

Why is it then that you Christian types are more than willing to quote from the old testament when it suits your agenda?

Leviticus 18:22

'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

or if you prefer the King James version:

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

Does the realization that Leviticus is most assuredly part of the old testament mean you folks will finally have no problem with gay people, the way you have no problem with shellfish? Hurray! Or does the fact I hear that verse repeated ad nauseam to oppress other humans mean you're just a bunch of power hungry hypocrites?

My vote is the latter, and that I'm about to hear some BS reason to try to justify the hypocrisy.

drugnazi - you will never hear me quoting Leviticus on homosexual behavior.

The Church teaches that we are to love one another as Christ loved us. What good does it do a person to hate someone because of their behavior? That we know certain things are not healthy for a person, i.e. smoking, drinking to excess, eating poison, abberant sexual behavior is a fact. Ask the medical community how certain parts of the body are stretched and damaged during certain acts. Does that mean that there are heterosexuals that also have that behavior? Certainly - but it is it good for their bodies? Certainly not.

I have never hated anyone - period. Not due to their behavior towards me or their behavior to someone else. That is by the grace of God - nothing of my doing.

You have many assumed ideas about Christians. You assert this and that about them. Hypocritical? Perhaps ... just like everyone else in the world, for no one is perfect. However, your lumping of all Christians into a tidy little cubby hole shows your ignorance of humans in general.

Take yourself for instance - are you a believer in God? Are you of the Muslim Faith? Are you a Buddhist? Are you a Christian? You have not said - and that is fine...

I, however, will let you know that I am a Christian and I do believe in the sanctity of life and I do pray that I will not hate or have behavior that is ill willed towards another. I do not always succeed in my attempts to be loving and kind.

It might surprise you to know that my family includes a homosexual male (God rest his soul, for he is dead now 20 years). It might also surprise you to know that he was very much loved and involved in our lives and we were in his.

So, in the future, drugnazi, please understand that each person is an individual and that lumping Christians, Muslims, Atheists, etc., is a very easy and lazy way to attempt to make a point.

Heck - you might even find that you like Christians if you would get out of yourself and not target them as "power hungry hypocrites."

oh and by the way, attacking people and their religion is just so boring...
